'And Then There Were None...' (Prismacolor pencil drawing on wood)

What does the Cuban Red Macaw and the Eastern Hare Wallaby have in common?
Within this drawing, a keen eye might be able to count the 150 different animals or plants hidden amongst the image. They all share one attribute: extinction. Devastatingly, explosive, unsustainable human population growth has impacted so dramatically on all of these species that they have been driven into extinction.  Some were over-hunted or over-harvested, some had their habitats destroyed, and others were the victims of human- introduced pest species.
Why ‘150’? Shockingly, this represents the number of living animal and plant species that scientific models have predicted are going extinct EVERY 24 HOURS all due to human impacts! Although conservation efforts have dramatically improved, the extinction rate is likely to increase as the earth heats and the ice melts, changing the climatic conditions in every ecosystem on the planet.
